‘The worm’ is NASA's unmistakable curvy red logo designed by Richard Danne and Bruce Blackburn in 1975. After being dormant for almost three decades, this globally recognized symbol is back, appearing recently on the side of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle that took astronauts to the International Space Station.
This celebratory book by Standards Manual is a collection of over 200 archival photos, all featuring ‘the worm’. It showcases the extent of NASA’s graphics program in the 70’s, along with the incredible achievements of its personnel. The final chapter highlights the return of the ‘The worm’ aboard the SpaceX Demo-2 mission launched in 2020.
